For Investors

How to Invest in a UK Business or Asset

Whether you're putting in £5K or £500K, the steps are the same. Pick a deal that matches your ticket, do the homework, talk to the operator, fund it. Tax relief through SEIS or EIS often applies on the SME equity side.

1. Match ticket to deal type

Under £25K mostly means fractional property, hotel rooms or SEIS-stage equity. Larger tickets open up commercial real estate, SME minority stakes and full acquisitions.

2. Read the deal terms

Look at projected return, hold period, exit structure and who's operating. The numbers on every listing are the operator's projections, not guarantees.

3. Talk to the operator or founder

Direct contact, no broker. Ask about the model assumptions, what the downside looks like, and the operator's prior track record.

4. Check tax relief, then fund

Many SME equity deals are SEIS or EIS eligible: 50% or 30% income tax relief, plus loss relief. Confirm eligibility with HMRC's advance assurance before you wire funds.

Investment Opportunities by Ticket Size

What's realistic depends on the ticket you can deploy. Filter the marketplace above by minimum ticket to see deals at your bracket.

From £5K

Fractional property and hotel rooms. Passive income, you own a slice of a managed asset. Lower commitment, lower control.

£10K – £25K

SEIS-eligible equity in early-stage UK companies, equity crowdfunding, smaller property syndicates. Tax relief makes the maths work here.

£25K – £150K

Minority equity stakes in profitable SMEs, franchise resales, e-commerce brand acquisitions. Active involvement usually expected.

£150K+

Full SME acquisitions, commercial real estate, care home freeholds. Bank debt and asset-backed finance become real options.
